January 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

On the twelfth day of Christmas my computer gave to me:

Twelve blown-out circuits,
Eleven damaged diskettes,
Ten disk-drive lockouts,
Nine burnt-out fuses,
Eight worthless printouts,
Seven system resets,
Six I/O spasms,
Five blank cassettes,
Four garbled saves,
Three loose plugs,
Two key bounces,
And a glitch on the computer screen!!!!

Cannibals in an I.T. Company…

January 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Five cannibals get appointed as programmers in an IT company.

During the welcoming ceremony the boss says: “You’re all part of our team now. You can earn good money here, and you can go to the company canteen for something to eat. So don’t trouble the other employees.”

The cannibals promise not to trouble the other employees.

A month later the boss returns and says: “You’re all working very hard, and I’m very satisfied with all of you. However, one of our cleaners has disappeared. Do any of you know what happened to her?”

The cannibals disavowed all knowledge of the missing cleaner.

After the boss left, the leader of the cannibals says to the others: “Which of you idiots ate the cleaner?”

A hand rises hesitantly, to which the leader of the cannibals says: “You fool! For four weeks we’ve been eating Team Leaders, Managers, and Project Managers so no one would notice anything, and you have to go and eat the cleaner!”

China hacks Germany…

January 11, 2008 · 1 Comment

China has hacked into the computers of Angela Merkel’s Chancellery and three other German ministries in an extraordinary economic espionage operation that threatens to blight the German leader’s already delicate trip to Beijing this week. The claims, made in a detailed investigation by Der Spiegel magazine, were denied strenuously by the Chinese authorities yesterday, but there was no mistaking German anger. “If true, it is unacceptable,” Ralf Stegner, a senior Social Democrat, said. “China is a competitor as well as a trading partner. Mrs Merkel has to get to the bottom of the affair on her China trip.”

Germany fighting back…

The German government has reportedly started hiring coders to develop “white hat” malware capable of covertly hacking into terrorists’ PCs. The recruitment push signals that the German government is going ahead with controversial plans, yet to be legally approved, to develop “remote forensic software” (AKA a law enforcement Trojan). BKA federal police have been directed by the Interior Ministry to resume the initiative and hire two “specialists”*, AAP reports.

The Russians are coming to the 2010 World Cup – but not all of them have good intentions. International cybercriminals are using 2010 to target South Africa, forensic investigators warned. The attacks target individuals, businesses and the government. Retief described how one government department, which he declined to name, had its servers hijacked by criminals who ran a porn website off the government’s equipment.
